Some Pics of Lake Champlain

Jan Manon_Lake Champlain.jpg

This is back in the winter of 2004. The lake was completely frozen over by Burlington and further north. It was very beautiful to see and you could walk over to the little lighthouse by the breakwater. There were some families taking pictures and a small area was cleared, and people were skating.

I had a good time playing and exploring with friends in town. One weekend, I went out with some locals in South Hero by one of my favorite private beaches, and we skied across the lake to New York. It took a few hours as there was a couple of areas that were tricky to navigate. It was a wonderful experience. Our little crew was quite rugged and fast. :)

When we got over to Essex, NY, one of the guys knew the owner of a local restaurant and we sat down to a delicious hot meal and hung out with his family. It was a great workout too!

Something I liked at 10 and helps me again

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

- from Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson (lines 65-70)
